MW3 Takeover!
With the new release of the game Modern Warfare 3, www.ign.com has been promoting the game like no other. On the site right now there is a complete page takeover of MW3 Ads. It includes an expandable leader board (only when you log onto the site) which shows a video of their new commercial "vet vs. noob", a interactive big box ad, and finally a complete background image on the page all promoting the game for Xbox 360 (even though it is for other systems as well).
IGN is a well known gaming site that has an established target market who go to them for information on upcoming games and reviews. Their target audience really trust the opinions that the people at IGN give. So i wasn't surprised to see the ever so hyped up game to be all over this gaming site. Gamers have been drooling over this game for awhile now and IGN wanted to be part of the hype.
The AD
The leader board itself starts expanded (with option to close) and shows the new commercial for the game. This draws in the consumer right away when they get on the page which engages and draws their interest. If they close the expanded leader board it shows just a title of the game with a watch trailer option (see image above). The big box itself has the same option just so you can refer to that as well.
When you click on watch it directs you to a new link to watch the trailer and gives you an interact with ad option. This is an interesting feature which true fans will appreciate where they give them info about certain things (say about the helicopter and how to earn that "perk" in the game). This is a nice interaction for a true gamer where they feel like they are part of the action and makes them want that game that much more.
The ad also stars a few role models I(Jonah Hill- the noob, Sam Worthington- the vet, and special appearance by Dwight Howard). This reaches the audience as well cause they are recognizable actors and an athlete which speaks to the gamers. They find these people funny and cool and like seeing that they can enjoy a game like this and that maybe they can get a chance to play them.
So in the end this ad does everything and more for the fans of the series. I know personally after seeing this ad I couldn't wait to play. So here's to hoping to see you fellow gamers online on the battlefield. Cheers!
